Even if you don’t consider yourself a ‘treehugger,’ you can still live greener by following a few sustainable living tips.

To get you started, this article will discuss sustainable living tips for four main areas of your life: energy conservation, transportation, food consumption and housing.

Energy Conservation

Of the sustainable living tips featured in this article, energy conservation is one of the most important.  Why?

Well, it’s energy consumption that cause a great deal of the world’s pollution problems, since it tends to release noxious gasses into the air.

These gasses, in turn, create a greenhouse effect, which can negatively affect all of Earth’s life.
So, what can individuals do to conserve their energy?

It will boil down to two basic things: either using less ‘harmful’ energy or utilizing renewable energy.  To conserve on existing energy, use eco-friendly light bulbs, energy-efficient computers and consider hand-drying clothes during warm weather.

Additionally, only use electricity when needed.  For example, make sure if you’re not in a room you keep the lights off.

Utilizing renewable energy may be more challenge if your house isn’t already built for it.  If it isn’t, you can start by considering solar power.

It does not offer a difficult conversion process, and it is highly efficient.  Also, homeowners get tax breaks for solar panels they buy for their homes.

Transportation

Transportation is another important area of consideration when thinking about sustainable living tips.  Like energy, it tends to release a lot of pollution into the air.

If you live in an urban area, you can consider walking or using public transportation in place of a car.  If you do not live in an urban area or you would prefer to drive, consider getting a hybrid vehicle.  This will reduce or even eliminate your need for gas, saving you money while keeping the environment in tact.

Food Consumption

Next on the list of sustainable living tips is a discussion of food consumption.  Always support brands that practice sustainable agriculture and fishing.

Also opt to eat organic foods, while staying away from anything that is processed or chemically-based.  As far as animal meat, make sure the brand you’re eating supports responsible herding.

This means that their animals eat organic feed, are allowed to adequately roam and aren’t slaughtered inhumanly.

Housing

Finally, this article will present sustainable living tips for your housing.  As already discussed, you can consider incorporating renewable energy for powering your home.

But you can take things a step further if you decide to live in a sustainable living community.  In these communities everything is designed in a sustainable manner.

Your house will be in walking distance from your work, shopping and entertainment.

Congratulations… you have acquired a few sustainable living tips.

To obtain more sustainable living tips, you can search “sustainable living tips” on Google or buy a book on the subject.  Through these resources you can get even more creative ideas on how you can live greener.

Break Through: "From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility"

Environmental insiders Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus argue that the environmental movement has not evolved with the times and is out of touch with modern American values.

They call for a new aspirational politics that will be capable of tackling our most pressing challenges.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)

The big media have spoken on the question of global warming, and the debate is officially over.

"Be afraid, be very afraid," warns Time magazine.

But have Al Gore and his environmentalist allies really proven their case?

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism) provides a provocative, entertaining, and well documented expos of some of the most shamelessly politicized pseudoscience we are likely to see in our relatively cool lifetimes.
