Sustainable Living

If you can achieve true sustainable living, you will not only be preserving your health, but also the health of the environment.

Why is this so?  It’s because sustainable living by definition means adhering to a lifestyle in which you: conserve the earth’s resources and avoid pollution.

Through these two simple things, you can ensure that the environment will remain stable both for yourself and your future generations.

So, what steps should a person take to begin sustainable living?  Well, first they need to look at whether or not they’re living in a sustainable home.

What is a sustainable home?  A sustainable home is designed to conserve energy.  The best type of sustainable home is one that utilizes alternative sources of fuel.

Examples of alternative fuel sources could be solar or wind power.

The other type of sustainable homes involves housing that is designed to conserve on traditional energy sources.

This is achieved by using certain types of insulation and HVAC systems.  Care is also taken when it comes to windowing, another critical aspect in the energy spectrum.

Granted, these types of homes certainly aren’t as sustainable as those utilizing energy sources that are truly ‘green’, but they are still a good option for individuals that can’t afford something better.

Yet, even if a person can afford the most sustainable home, they may be at a loss as to how to actually build one.  Well, the best solution is to find sustainable home builders.

They can be found through a simple Internet search.  Many of them will specialize in building new homes, though they can also assist in turning an unsustainable home into a greener one.

Once you have acquired a sustainable home, you will want to look into other ways of attaining a greener lifestyle.

For instance, when using cleaning products, always look for ones that are organically based.  This is healthier alternative because it prevents chemicals from being released into your lungs or into the air.

Additionally, consider buying a hybrid car, as these do not emit as many toxic gases into the environment.  And, don’t forget the power of recycling.

Instead of throwing plastic or cans into the regular garbage, make sure you put them into your recycle bin.  Do this when you’re at home and when you’re in public, as many establishments are now offering separate wastebaskets for recyclable products.

In conclusion, sustainable living doesn’t have to be a pipe dream.  Everyone is capable of achieving it.  Granted, some people will be able to live a completely sustainable lifestyle, because their housing will also be green.

Others may not have that opportunity, but they can still do other things, such as recycling, getting a sustainable car or supporting and using green products.

Indeed, if everyone can take just one step towards sustainable living, the environment can still be saved.  This doesn’t mean that you do the minimum…but if you can’t live the greenest life, don’t think that whatever efforts you are making are being wasted, because they are still invaluable when looking at the whole scheme of things.

Break Through: "From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility"

Environmental insiders Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus argue that the environmental movement has not evolved with the times and is out of touch with modern American values.

They call for a new aspirational politics that will be capable of tackling our most pressing challenges.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)

The big media have spoken on the question of global warming, and the debate is officially over.

"Be afraid, be very afraid," warns Time magazine.

But have Al Gore and his environmentalist allies really proven their case?

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism) provides a provocative, entertaining, and well documented expos of some of the most shamelessly politicized pseudoscience we are likely to see in our relatively cool lifetimes.
