Sustainable Furniture

If you want to contribute to the green movement, consider buying sustainable furniture.  What is sustainable furniture?

Sustainable furniture is created from materials that are environmentally-friendly.  This includes reclaimed wood, water-based stains and dyes and non-toxic glues and other chemicals.

You can get any type of sustainable furniture, whether it’s a sustainable table, chair, bed, sofa… anything you can think of.

As far as design, sustainable furniture can be just as attractive as their non-sustainable counterparts… perhaps even more so, especially if a person likes a natural look.

To see an example of this type of furniture, enter “sustainable table” or “sustainable sofa” into Google or another search engine.

You will then see hundreds of attractive designs that rival even the most popular pieces on the showroom floor.
There is also another side to sustainable furniture.

This involves a company manufacturing furniture that is partially sustainable.  When this happens they might do something that is unsustainable, (such as use real wood), but try to still be green by not using chemicals, (an action that is sustainable).  Consider IKEA, a company that is well-known for their Scandinavian furniture.

Now, don’t expect to find fully sustainable tables, sofas or other pieces, because a lot of their furniture is made from real wood.  But on the upside, no chemicals are used, still making them a better choice than many other furniture manufacturers.

Also, keep in mind that furniture is intended to last a very long time.  So, even if you can’t get a fully sustainable table, sofa or chair, consider the fact that at least you won’t be throwing the furniture out any time soon.

This means that although trees are being used, at least it is in a worthwhile manner.
Of course, this is not to say that you shouldn’t try and buy fully sustainable furniture, because this is the best choice for the environment.

To find it you can first start searching your local furniture store.  Often times sustainable brands will possess some time of label letting people know they are a greener alternative.  If you can’t find anything like this, you can always buy sustainable furniture off of the Internet.

One of the best brands is Urban Woods.  You can get a variety of sustainable furniture there, whether it’s for your bedroom, dining room or kitchen.

Additionally, if you need inspiration on how to style your rooms, Urban Woods provides an array of pictures showcasing the best layouts for their furniture.

In conclusion, sustainable furniture offers quality, attractiveness and greenness at costs that are the same if not cheaper than non-sustainable furniture.

You may have to do a little bit of looking around to find sustainable furniture, but with the Internet such a process should not be extremely difficult.

Yet, if you find that there’s just not enough selection available for you, consider getting partially sustainable furniture.

While this is not the most optimal solution, it is still better than supporting non-sustainable manufacturers who don’t make much of an effort for environmentalism.

Break Through: "From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility"

Environmental insiders Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus argue that the environmental movement has not evolved with the times and is out of touch with modern American values.

They call for a new aspirational politics that will be capable of tackling our most pressing challenges.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)

The big media have spoken on the question of global warming, and the debate is officially over.

"Be afraid, be very afraid," warns Time magazine.

But have Al Gore and his environmentalist allies really proven their case?

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism) provides a provocative, entertaining, and well documented expos of some of the most shamelessly politicized pseudoscience we are likely to see in our relatively cool lifetimes.
