Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is achieved when the earth’s natural resources are properly conserved.  As a result there are fewer worries over pollution, animal extinction and other issues that currently plague environmentalists.

In turn humans benefit, as they would be living in healthier and more beautiful conditions.

With that being said, what can be done to truly achieve environmental sustainability?  Well, keep in mind that environmental sustainability is no small feat.

It is something that needs to be embarked on both the governmental and personal level.  Governmentally, lawmakers can create legislation to help force cities to become more sustainable.

For example, there could be a mandate forcing construction companies to incorporate more sustainability into their designs.  And it doesn’t necessarily have to equate to alternative energy.

Sometimes just encouraging conservation of existing energy can make a world of difference for environmental sustainability.

On a personal level a lot can be done for environmental sustainability.  Recycling is one of the most sustainable options, but there are other things as well.  For example, why not plant a tree in your backyard?

Trees are very important to the environment, as they replenish the air’s oxygen while also providing food for animals.  They can even provide food for yourself and your family if you learn how to properly cultivate their fruit.

You can also promote environmental sustainability by purchasing recycled products.  Pencil and paper are an example.  If enough people get into using these types of products, thousands of trees could be saved.

But the promotion must still be massive, since the majority of people use ‘traditional’ pencil and paper.

Also, think about purchasing green cleaning products.  These are different from their chemical counterparts because they utilize organic processes to attack dirt and grime.  As a result chemicals do not get released into the environment, nor do they get released into your lungs.

Finally, think about how you can limit pollution through your transportation options.  If you live in or near a city, why not consider taking a bus or the subway train to work?

You will be saving the environment along with a few extra bucks, since public transportation tends to be much cheaper than driving by a car.

Of course, if you find that you cannot take advantage of public transportation, you can still play a part in environmental sustainability.  How?  The answer involves getting a hybrid car.  This is a type of vehicle that is designed to either conserve gas and/or run on an alternative fuel source, such as electricity.

They are a little bit more expensive than regular cars, but not crazily so.  Yet, keep in mind that any extra you have to spend upfront for a hybrid car, you’ll gain back when you have to go to the gas pump.

In conclusion, everyone must play their part if the world is to achieve true environmental sustainability.  If we don’t, what’s to come of the earth in the future?

What’s to come of it even now?  Don’t make a grim future for yourself or your children… do what is necessary to sustain the earth by how you manage your wastes, what you buy and how you transport yourself.

Break Through: "From the Death of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility"

Environmental insiders Michael Shellenberger and Ted Nordhaus argue that the environmental movement has not evolved with the times and is out of touch with modern American values.

They call for a new aspirational politics that will be capable of tackling our most pressing challenges.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)

The big media have spoken on the question of global warming, and the debate is officially over.

"Be afraid, be very afraid," warns Time magazine.

But have Al Gore and his environmentalist allies really proven their case?

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism) provides a provocative, entertaining, and well documented expos of some of the most shamelessly politicized pseudoscience we are likely to see in our relatively cool lifetimes.
